By dissing the CES show in Vegas and announcing the iPhone at Tuesday’s Macworld conference in San Francisco, Apple dominated all the electronics industry headlines and stepped confidently into the competitive world of telephony.
The buttonless, black-and-chrome iPhone handheld combines a mobile phone, a wide-screen video iPod and a palm-top computer.
“Today we’re introducing three revolutionary products,” Jobs said moments before unveiling the device. “A new iPod, a phone and an internet communicator. These are not three separate devices — we call it the iPhone.”

Hello,
Just browsing your site- I was curious as to why Apple is featured, given some of the concerns that Greenpeace has raised about some of the parts they use which are not eco or people friendly (www.greenpeace.org/apple/). They report other companies have stopped using these parts and Greenpeace has a devoted campaign to encourage Apple to follow their lead.
Hi Nina,
Your point on Greenpeace and Apple is an interesting one. Greenpeace is indeed trying to motivate Apple (a company they love, by the way), to do the right thing — vis a vis removal of harmful chemicals from its products and recycling of spent units. We, as a consumer- focused blog, endeavor to walk the fine line between green practices, product news and design innovation. We’re just getting our act together on our content mix and, as a start-up, have to pay heed to the demands of traffic generation and the benefits of timely news story posting. We were not making a product endorsement of the iPhone – we were making our audience, (as small as it may currently be), aware of the major consumer electronics news of the day. I hope that explains our post a little better.
Please come back again. We appreciate all comments — positive, negative and inquisitive.
Regards,
Ross
