Fashion Week in Sao Paolo is featuring clothing by a group of young designers who are turning recycling into a fashion statement. New technology that now makes it possible to manufacture clothing from the polyester fibers from recycled bottles, and organic cotton grown without pesticides, may prove that being environmentally conscious and staying hip can walk hand-in-hand.
Across the pond, English retailing giant Marks & Spencer is also going green. Among several green initiatives undertaken by the retailer is the stocking of a fleece made out of 11 recycled plastic bottles. The retailing giant also launched a campaign this week to cut packaging by 25% and to label all food imported by air.
