Seems like a long way off, but at least it’s in the works. By 2023, dry cleaners in California will need to replace perchloroethylene, or perc, a solvent used in dry cleaning, with safer alternatives already available on the market.

In certain situations, phase out needs to be completed by July 1, 2010.
