I think then is was owned by a pharmaceutical company that wanted Shaklee due to all the assets in the Patents and Intellectual Property value, but they didn't really RUN the company super well. In 2004, a Holdimg Company bought Shaklee and Roger Barnett became the CEO - he is the head of the Holding Company. We're still privately held, but not by a pharmaceutical company anymore...thankFULLY!! :) It's a great company! more scientists and PhDs than any other companies in nutrition! I had never heard of their products until I started working in an office full of Shaklee nuts about 4 years ago. Since that time I have noticed that the women in the office who use/sell Shaklee products are crazy about it to the point that it is like a cult of product pushers. They really scare me.
