Five minutes from Acadia National Park and its 60 miles of unpaved roads (hello, bikers, walkers, skiers and snowshoers!) sits the Victorian Graycote Inn. A bed and breakfast in Bar Harbor, Maine, Graycote became the first Bar Harbor lodging to receive the Environmental Leader Certification from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

Surrounded by lush gardens, this eco-friendly B&B strives toward sustainability, touting an energy-saving furnace, towel reuse program, and recycling and compost program. In addition, environmentally-friendly cleaning products are used—and disposable dishes aren’t. What’s on the plates is also local and includes organic, shade-grown coffee, wild blueberries and 100 percent pure Maple syrup. Rates during the “quiet” season start at $85 per night.
