Sustainable Oral Care - Tom’s of Maine

tomprods_1_1.jpg
Tom’s of Maine has been around for over 37 years. This pioneering brand launched in 1970 with Clearlake, the country’s first non-phosphate liquid laundry detergent. And since 2006, Tom’s of Maine has been an independently run division of Colgate-Palmolive. Today, their natural product line includes: toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, soap, shave cream and deodorant.

What sets Tom’s apart from many brands is what they put in and what they leave out of their ingredient mix. In are ingredients based on plants and herbs. Out are “artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, preservatives, and animal products. Toothpastes contain no saccharin, mouthwashes no alcohol, and soaps no EDTA.” And no animal testing.

Over the years, I’ve enjoyed using many of their oral care products — most recently — their natural anti-plaque tartar control plus whitening fennel toothpaste and Cinnamint mouthwash. Not only do I like their products, but also their sustainable and responsible corporate policies. Their products and packaging are sustainable and recyclable — saving 376,396 pounds of solid waste and 87,286 gallons of water annually. They provide employees with a $4000 benefit when they purchase a new hybrid vehicle. And they’ve donated generously to The Nature Conservancy for various projects since 1998.

New to the personal care scene is their aluminum-free, improved, Long-Lasting Deodorant Stick, made with hops — a great, natural, anti-bacterial agent to help combat odor.  Let me know how it is, if you try it.
With over 40,000 retail locations throughout North America, you may not need to refer to their store locator. First-hand, I know Tom’s of Maine is available at most Whole Foods, Duane Reade, Eckerd, Rite Aid and CVS stores.

We just started using that new deodorant they came out with hops in it and it works WAY better than their original stuff. Both my wife and I use it and after over a month, neither one of us have any complaints. Try it, its good!

I’ve been using the hops deodorant too now for about 2 weeks. So far so good! I made my husband swear to tell me if I start smelling but no complaints so far. It is a little sticky when first put on but dries quickly with no white mess.
