Dr. Bronner – Magical Soap? I Think So!

dbfam.jpg
The label printed on a bottle of Dr. Bronner’s soap proclaims that there are eighteen uses for his pure castile soap. Have I tried all 18 of his suggestions (which are also included on the bottles’ intricate, eccentric labels)? Nah…but I have brushed my teeth with this miraculous soap and come from a family of backpackers who swear by the “Good Doctor’s” products.

All Dr. Bronner’s soaps are certified organic by the USDA National Organic program. The bottles are constructed of 100% post-consumer plastic, and interestingly, the labels are printed with organic hemp seed ink. Furthermore, the soaps are biodegradable, which is a necessity for those looking to wash dishes or shower in the outdoors. The term “castile” guarantees that the soap is made from pure vegetable and essential oils – not a manufactured blend of detergents. I prefer the liquid soaps, which are highly concentrated.

dbalmnd.jpgWhen I’m not camping, I use the almond scented variety as a basic body wash daily. I love the almond fragrance, which is less heavy than Bronner’s peppermint variety. Plus, it leaves my skin feeling refreshingly smooth and clean, and as Dr. Bronner exclaims on the label, “ABSOLUTE CLEANLINESS IS GODLINESS!”

Dr. Bronner’s soaps are available at a variety of natural food stores, but you can check out the website at drbronner.com

Tastybaby – organic & homemade, without the mess

tastybaby.jpg

This post is via guest blogger, Julia Z. Fenster, of The Lohasian:

It seems that stores are catching up to what moms have known for the last century, organic baby food with wholesome ingredients is simply better for baby than its jarred competitor. The solution, until now, has been a cumbersome and messy process involving steaming fruits and vegetable, freezing them in ice cubes trays and the like, and heating up at meal time. Although home made food is the best alternative, companies are stepping up to provide organic wholesome substitutes for busy parents. One such company is Baltimore based Tastybaby, which makes 100% organic frozen baby food.

The company blast freezes the freshest ingredients at their prime, capturing the ripest flavors and optimal nutrients and then saving them in convenient single serving portions. All the ingredients used are certified organic, farmed and minimally process. The products are segmented into stages of child’s development. Stage 1 features an extra smooth puree with single ingredients (more…)
