That’s right. Ocean Power Technology has designed this PowerBuoy, already installed in Hawaii. As waves roll into shore, the buoy moves up and down, generating power transmitted through an underwater cable. Inventors promise a nonpolluting, quiet, steel machine that is scalable to large power stations. Although this innovation may not produce energy as quickly as other sources, its cost will be far less, making it a conceivable alternative to expensive, unsustainable practices.

Add a couple of sunbathing seals on deck, and this will look no different than the other, less functional buoys on the water.
