As waves roll into shore, the buoy moves up and down, generating power transmitted through an underwater cable. Inventors promise a nonpolluting, quiet, steel machine that is scalable to large power stations. Although this innovation may not produce energy as quickly as other sources, its cost will be far less, making it a conceivable alternative to expensive, unsustainable practices.

Add a couple of sunbathing seals on deck, and this will look no different than the other, less functional buoys on the water.
