This is not a tourism video. Every year, Alaska sells permits to the not-so-distant cousins of Michael Vick to hunt wolves from planes and helicopters; this is not sport, this is not ethical, this is an inhumane activity that has to be stopped. Alaskans have voted against it and the Feds have outlawed it, yet the big game hunting lobby and special interests (ever seen corrupt Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens in action?) keep this brainless, cruel and unsportsmanlike practice alive, year after year, under the bogus guise of wildlife management. Check out this video for a closer look. Voice your opposition to aerial wolf hunting by sending a message via Defenders of Wildllife.

This is disgusting. The only people that would support this are the ones that supported Senator “Machine Gun” Kerry’s run for President. Can any rational person imagine supporting someone who said that they saw nothing wrong with using a 50 cal machine gun on half naked children?
Um…this isn’t really about some lame political action group with an agenda. This is the kind of thing Republican Senators and Governors in Alaska put forth as wildlife management. More of a Bushian, ‘Shock and Awe’, approach to managing the ecosystem, than some warmed over Vietnam war innuendo.
Yeah, so you guys realize how much the wolves ruin the caribou, right? I moved to Alaska after a stint in the military. Like any other wildlife program, it’s a balance between the local ecology and the “wild”. In this case, the local ecology includes people trying to live a traditional way of life (the native Alaskans) who have herds of caribou. When you let the wolves run free, you run a real serious risk of these trash eating half domesticated possibly rabid angry pack animals not only causing trouble in our major metropolitan areas (and we don’t have much) but also starving someone to death.
But I’ll let the guys know the internet is working against them and encourage them to keep a traditional way of life.
Wolves don’t “ruin the caribou” they are a natural predator who in a natural state cull the weak and keep caribou at numbers the ecosystem can sustain. When man starts herding animals a conflict occurs. It’s not about stopping all game and predator management practices where they are proven necessary to protect commerce and people’s livelihoods, it’s about shooting animals from planes in the most inhumane and unsportsman-like means possible.
By denigrating the wolf as a rabid (very rare), trash eating (that’s a new one), half-domesticated (where do you live – L.A.) pest you show a profound lack of knowledge and appreciation for all things wild. You make wolves sound like a the Crips and Bloods rampaging through the streets of Anchorage when in fact you’ll probably never see them even if they’re there.
You guys make lots of sense (not). As many Dem’s in Congress voted for this lame ass program as Republican’s (they’re ALL the same dog, just a different leash) AND the native Alaskan’s, as native American’s, have ALWAYS managed their caribou and herds successfully for centuries – well before “eco management” was ever a consideration. It’s called NATURE.
What next – are you going to cull Grizzly’s? Or mountain lions? They’re doing what animals do in the wild – they survive.
Unlike humans who kill willy nilly and steal for their own gratification.
Guess whose side I’m on?

this is awful, this has got to stop
This is wrong dogs and wolves are different not the same..
They cant be trained like a dog can..and they are too smart for that they dont listen..i know..i had one last year…he was still wild and killed other dogs rots shepards and dobermans…anything that was big he killed
There is sufficient proof that states wolves are NOT depleting any game animals. In fact it has been proven that the wolves are beneficial to the environment. Anybody who kills wolves is an ignorant redneck with a blood lust.
Wake up USA! Wolves are not the problem, and they never were. It is the way your population opperates. The reasons for the decrease in YOUR wild game is not the wolf. It is your OVERHUNTING that is the problem… well that and Deforestation, Urbanization, Global warming, Land pollution, and other smaller things combine. The wolf has unfortunately been the scape-goat for human ignorance and selfish greed. I hope this has been enlighting. Canadian Wolf fan and sister, Kudos to those who see the errors of others. EH!
I’ve lived in Alaska for 30+ years, I do not agree with any of the wolf kills. In Alaska you will hear Senators and Gov. Palin say that the wolves are over populated and causing people in remote area’s that depend on moose and caribou for food to struggle. But if you have never been to Alaska you can’t understand how much of the land is unpopulated and how much wildlife flourishes. The only thing that interferes with the moose and caribou populations are hunters.
I’ve been in villages where a caribou herd came through the middle of town and they come through for two-three hours straight! There are too many animals to count. I’ve driven out of the state and come across caribou herds migrating and again sat in the road and waited until there was a clearing. The caribou herds are just mind boggling in size.
The moose they are so despartely trying to protect from wolves, only are protected so hunters have more moose to kill.
Moose are less visible but still if we would let nature take it’s course like it has for thousands of years, mother nature will do what’s needed.
We already have moose and caribou hunting seasons, we don’t need to kill wolves to make hunting easier for hunters. What is most disturbing about the wolf kills is the majority of the area’s they hunt moose and caribou are accesible by the road system. It is not the remote villages with no road access they talk about.
I’m not just a wolf fan but I love the wild life that Alaska has that so many people will never experience and many others take advantage of.
I think this should be stopped. But im doing a report on how it is good and bad so dont hate me for this comment just saying. GO WOLVES and all other canines!
Wolves have severely reduce ungulate numbers in Alaska’s rural areas in which hunting is a means of survival for citizens. Wolves need to be culled, absolutely.
stop arial hunting it’s not fair way of hunting
it’s not really a sport there just doing them harm
This is completely wrong. The wolves need to be protected from this barbaric practice.
