Yoko Ono’s IMAGINE PEACE TOWER, a landmark for world peace, will be illuminated on Tuesday, October 9. This date marks what would have been husband, John’s, 67th birthday; this special dedication is Yoko’s way of commemorating his life, and his lyrics: imagine all the people living life in peace.
According to Yoko, Reykjavik, Iceland was selected “because it is a very unique, eco-friendly country. 80% if Iceland’s energy is provided by water, not oil. Because of this, the air, water and earth are surprisingly pure and clean. The energy for the Tower is also provided by water….Let us come together to realize a peaceful world. I consider myself very fortunate to see the dream my husband I dreamt together become reality.”
The obelisk of light will shine continuously from October 9, 2007 to the anniversary of his death, December 9, 2007. The column was constructed over a base measuring 10 meters, and will emit a ray of light 20-30 meters high, with a radius of approximately a meter.
You can send your written wishes to: IMAGINE PEACE TOWER, PO Box 1009, 121 Reykjavik, Iceland. All wishes will be put in a series of capsules, and buried on the island of Videy surrounding the Peace Tower.

Happy Birthday, John. I’ll never forget our “merry christmas” exchange along Fifth Avenue, many years ago.

What a wonderful celebration.
