Surfing is a great way to get exercise and literally immerse yourself in
what nature has to offer. On an average sunny San Diego day, hoards of surfers ride the waves at Black’s Beach, Wind and Sea, and Ocean Beach, along with a large assortment of other popular spots.
Although the sport is generally low-impact and popular amongst young, environmentally conscious people, you can’t help but wonder how much surf wax pollutes the ocean on a daily basis. Several companies offer alternative products to the best-selling Mr. Zog’s Sex Wax, which contains paraffin and added unnatural scent.
Companies dedicated to creating environmentally friendly wax from a beeswax base include Muffin Wax, Northern Light Surfboard Wax (which guarantees to be the “stickiest wax on the planet!”) and Phil’s Organic Surf Wax. Give it a try!

Has anyone heard of Matunas? I’ve tried other non-petroleum waxes and they don’t compare. It’s sticky but still bumps up good. Anyone else using it?
Phil’s Organic Surf Wax lasts long and in cool water works well. Definately advise it to anyone looking to use alternative wax.
Hey,
This is Ryan Edwards from Booty Wax Co., Virginia based organic surf wax company. Here at Booty Wax Co. our motto is simple: always put surfing first, except when booty interfers of course.
In Australia, Treehugger Surf Wax is widely available and is 100% Natural with no petroleum products whatsoever. They also donate a percentage of sales to non-profit organisations like teh Surfrider Foundation. You can buy at surf stores or online at http://www.treehuggerwax.com. Its as good, if not better than traditional paraffin based waxes!
Matunas surf wax is not organic or petroleum free it’s just regular wax with an organic scent. Very lame to make false claims.
I enjoy using Matunas surf wax, it is certified organic, and it is very sticky.
It is not certified organic. Show me where this claim comes from. It is 100% BS
False claims? Damn straight. Matunas is made in a mass produced facility in Ca, with Famous, and other garbage. Not organic. Not petrochemical free. And you idiots believe the lies!
There is no checks-and-balances for making the claims on their wrapper because it is not something you eat that is scrutinized by the FDA. I can make soap and say it is made out of organic cow shit and there is nothing anyone can say about it. No proof. They have no accountability or certificates of organic, or petrochemical free. WAKE UP.
It is horrible to see how people take time to degrade others and their acheivements. I personally enjoy using Stickybumps soy wax, Famous Green wax, Matunas eco-wax, and am glad the industry is making a step in the right direction.
why would you take all the time and energy makeing “green wax” when you can just recycle your old peices that are left over when you have used the wax up
DONT THROW OUT THE WRAPPER KEEP THE WAX IN IT SO U KNO THE TEMP WHEN YOU MELT IT DOWN
MAKE SHURE THAT IS ALL NON TOXIC AND DOSENT SAY DO NOT EAT THAT MEANS IT IS TOXIC!!!
Matunas rocks!
I surf almost everyday, live in Hawaii, and wax all of my boards, (from a small 5’9″ egg to a 8’4″ gun), with Matunas. Definately tested and approved!
