Let’s Say Thanks. Over and Over, and Overseas

Nearly 25 years ago my good friend Leslie said goodbye to her husband Tom who was leaving her and their very young son to board his naval carrier for a 6-month cruise. Leslie, a wonderful writer, wrote Tom a letter every day, and kept a calendar on which she chronicled what the baby had done each day, so that Tom could feel a little less like he had missed it all. I often think in these days of instant messaging how much easier their communication would have been, how much closer the husband and wife, the father and son would have been with the benefit of email.

thankscard.jpgToday I received an email asking me to blend the best of both worlds by visiting a site devoted to sending personalized messages of gratitude to US troops overseas. By submitting a message through this site you have the opportunity to send a free personalized postcard greeting to deployed servicemen and women. There are many imaginative postcard designs collected from young artists across the nation, so many in fact, that you may want to send more than one to avoid the task of choosing a favorite.

Supported by Xerox and other corporate sponsors, is easy, fast, and undoubtedly makes a heartfelt impact overseas. Add your thoughts and prayers to the mailbag at
