As you reach into your fridge to haul out that big plastic jug of cow’s milk envision a landfill brimming with plastic containers, a timeless monument to our voracious consumer appetites.
Well, the innovators at Greenbottle have designed an alternative container with a recycled cardboard outer shell and a biodegradable inner bag. Recycle the the outer
cardboard shell and put the inner bag in the trash.
Available in the U.K. sometime in 2008

Thank you for sharing. As a packaging design professional, it is inspirational to see eco friendly packaging options in production. I would imagine that the biodegradable bag (not sure of the material used) has to be composted. Otherwise it will decompose in the landfill very very slowly. I hope they are educating customers bout that on the package. Also, I wonder if you can buy the biodegradable bags as refills. Can’t wait until this arrives in the states.
I agree. I was a bit thrownback at the idea of just throwing away the inner bag. Even biodegradable items won’t break down if they are buried deep enough. Having it in your own compost pile is a good solution. The only problem with this is how many people will actually do this. Recycling the current milk bottle is already available atleast in my area for no 1 & 2 plastics so we recycle our milk containers. It just goes back to what motivates people. Paying less on monthly garbage bills doesn’t seem to be enough, so what is?
I think this is a great product and that it should be available everywhere else asap. I like the refill bags idea, or maybe somehow people could bring their empty cartons to get them refilled…
