With Fashion Week officially here in NYC, fashionistas are abuzz with All Things Stylish for fall 2008. I just wanted to share with you my eco thoughts on fashionable threads, before we all go out and shop for things we may not need. Not to sound preachy, but…
I consider myself a conscious consumer so it’s important to me to not lose sight of the fact that what I already own may be perfectly fine to don this season, the next, or any other. If I already own a perfectly good cotton tee that doesn’t happen to be organic, bamboo or soy, there’s really no reason not to wear it. Same applies to jeans, skirts, and the rest of the wardrobe. How do you weigh-in on this?
If, on the other hand, something gets ruined in the wash, or I can’t get a stain out of my favorite white shirt (which seems to happen all the time), and that item needs replacing, I’ll definitely seek to replace it with either a vintage purchase (yes, I love thrift shops and fun vintage outposts), or indulge in a new item that’s responsibly made. I don’t have time to sew, so that’s simply not an option for me.
I’ll be posting about some eco fab fashion finds for fall 08 (the socially and ethically responsible ones) soon, so stay tuned.

Like you, I am a consumer with a conscience too, which is why I so often find myself wondering why the “hangers” that model these fashions every season can’t seem to find a meal that fits.
I bought bamboo t-shirts this year to go in each person’s stocking! It does feel silky soft and I like how it looks. Thanks for the information.
