  1. Join the conversation – Start a blog the reflects your perspective on the environment. This blog had its first incarnation on the free blog platform, Blogger.
  2. Frequent some sites like Grist, Treehugger, Triple Pundit or smaller cool green sites like Celsias, Conscious Lifestyle or Green LA Girl; throw some comments around and get up to speed on things.
  3. Turn off the TV and plant something.
  4. Vote – check the candidates records and positions on environmental issues and vote accordingly. We’ve been in the ‘Environmental Dark Ages’ here in the USA for eight years. Help change that.
  5. Do the little things around your house and community. Pick up some litter, take a re-usable bag to the supermarket, slap some energy efficient bulbs into your lighting fixtures, get programmable thermostats for your home heating system, conserve water and electricity. Unplug those chargers and get a Smart Power Strip for your TV, computer and peripherals.
  6. Get your over-fed derriere off the ride lawnmower, ATV and the driver’s seat of that SUV and start accomplishing things the old-fashioned way, with muscle power, and God forbid, walking.
  7. Maybe ride your bike or walk now and again, instead of driving a quarter-mile for that latte, and get a car that doesn’t drain an oil field every time you roll out of your driveway.
  8. Start monitoring your local Planning Board meetings. You’d be surprised how many skeevy, sketchy projects and developments are being considered.
  9. Donate a few bucks to worthwhile charities or hook-up with Green Dimes and get rid of your junk mail while saving, and planting, some trees .
  10. Start thinking ‘big picture’, instead of just getting by, because ultimately, we’re all ‘downstream’.
