One of the best ways to take some time off from work, school, or just life is to relax at an eco resort, especially if you love nature and would like to visit one of the world’s vastly diverse ecosystems. Part of relaxing comfortably is knowing that biological diversity is being conserved, and that you’re minimizing the environmental impact of your stay in such ways as limiting the amount of waste that is produced throughout your visit or by using solar-powered amenities. Here are some wonderful looking eco destinations that I’m fantasizing about visiting.

  • Uno Lodge: Located in Chihuahua, Mexico. The Uno Lodge overlooks the beautiful Urqiue River and Copper Canyon, providing wonderful hiking spots. Includes eco-friendly amenities such as solar panels that provide the lodge’s electricity. canyontravel.com/unoydoslodge.htm (photo: above, L)
  • Lapa Rios Ecolodge: Located in Costa Rica on a private rain-forest reserve. The Lapa Rios Ecolodge runs on biodiesel in order to reduce carbon emissions by 75%. The lodge provides many eco-friendly acitivities such as wildlife watching, horseback riding, kayaking, and hiking. laparios.com (photo: above, R)

  • Turtle Island Resort: Located in Fiji. The Turtle Island Resort is located on a private island and only offers enough room for 28 guests at a time, therefore maintaining the clear blue waters of the surrounding oceans. Some of the activities that guests can embark upon include horseback riding and scuba diving. turtlefiji.com (photo: above, L)
  • Tiamo: Located on a private beach in the Bahamas. The Tiamo eco resort provides showers that are heated by the sun as well as solar-powered ceiling fans, and even the kitchen is solar-powered! Guests can lay by the beach, kayak, sail or snorkel. tiamoresorts.com (photo: above, R)
