Every spring tons of plastic pots hit the landfill. Here’s a tip, search out Bonnie plants in biodegradable peat pots. Bonnie claims that their pots save over a million pounds of plastic a year.
Each plant sinks its roots into its pot, which is planted directly in the ground, so there is no transplant shock. As each pot gently biodegrades during the season, it adds a little organic matter to your soil.
Bonnie sells herbs, flowers and vegetables. To purchase USA made biodegradable pots use Bonnie Plants store locator, they’re also a supplier to Lowe’s Wal-Mart and Home Depot.

This is a great idea! Especially for people who enjoy lots of plants around their house not only in their garden.
I live in Yuma Az. My wife have been looking all over town for your biodegradable flower pots without any luck. Where can we find them? We want to start using them to save stress on out young plants when they are set out.

Bonnie’s peat pots are a wonderful innovation, however, don’t be fooled by their “green” message. The reason they grow in peat pots is that it is cheaper than petroleum-based plastic containers. Environmentally friendly peat pots are a fortunate by-product of finding cheaper ways of growing plants. Their plants are still polluted with petroleum-based fertilizers and pesticides that are by no means “green”. Bonnie Plants do not care about the environment any more than any other commercial grower. Also, be very cautious in which herbs and vegetables that you purchase from their supply. They dump into the retail garden centers whatever they have. They do no pay any attention to climate zones. For example, they routinely put winter and early spring crops into desert stores where it is already too hot.
I have purchased many bonnie plants in the last two years. Mostly vegetables. Am very displeased. We have raised gardens. Every plant slowly starts to die off. We have been pulling them up to examine the roots. The soil in the pot itself has turned very moldy in each one and will not absorb water. I don’t mean it won’t hold water. They won’t absorb water. The soil is very white with mold and crumbly. Will be lucky if any at all survive. I feel like we should be reimbursed. For us it is a lot of money to lose. We can only tell that the original soil in pots is either contaminated or of very poor grade.
Bonnie Plants have provided me and many of my neighbors here in Montana with LOTS of great veggies and herbs. The grower in this area knows how to have a healthy plant for me to buy each spring, and I look forward to it. It doesn’t hurt that the bio-degradeable really do “melt” into the ground making me feel like I’m making a difference not junking up the landfills more. **Customer 4-life !
I want to order seed so that I can start my veg inside can I order direct from you.
Hello Rose,
We don’t sell these. But I hope you find them at your local Lowes, Home Depot or WalMart. Good luck with the indoor veggie project!
I cannot find the bonnie pots on a web site. I need about 50-100 for my garden vegetables. I have searched wal mart and lowes with no luck. I understand they may use your pots for their own plants, but where do I buy the pots to plant my own seeds?

Hi everyone,
Has anyone experienced mold growing from the fiber pots and the outside becoming slimy. How long can the pots be kept indoors and how often can you water the plants in the pots?
Hmm.. This is my 1st time to your site. Thanks for sharing this. I have to bookmark this website. I was a home decorator for years. My home decorating tip of the day is this: Don’t overdecor a home. Walkthrough areas is key. Thanks again!!
I purchased 5 tomato plants in bonnie bio pots a couople of weeks ago and planted them the next day. Since then, they have failed to grow while a couple of plants from another distributor have done well. I dug them up to see what was going on, and it turns out that the bio pot has bound the roots up, preventing them from taking. I had torn the bottom out of the pot per the directions on the container, but this was not enough for my fledgling toms to get going. I have torn the whole bio pot off now, and hopefully the maters will take now. We’ll see.
I grow my veggies and herbs in containers but ro lack of a garden space, I have used Bonnie plants for quite sometime and to answer some of the issues I have read on this site,
1) when you remove part of the biodegradeable pot to expose some of the roots remember to spread some of the roots out so they can grow. If you leave the roots undisturbed and they are already growing as if almost root bound they will continue to grow that way and thsi will result is a low harvest or death to the plant. don’t be afraid to take a knofe and cut into the roots if they are very compacted before planting
2) Mold on the soil and/or slimmy pots this could be a sing of having too much water, allow the plants to dry out some or plant them and the soil should be fine. I hoipe this helps some of you.
Happy gardening and enjoy the taste of Fresh Veggies and Herbs, PS: if container gardening I love to mix Veggies with herbs, Like with my tomatoes I have basil growing with them, a cherry tomato with a fresh piece of baisl taste great.
