Long Beach, California. The Surfrider Foundation (www.surfrider.org) recently commissioned artist Kirk Rademaker to build a 10-ft high, 15-ft wide sand sculpture featuring ocean wildlife. The statue shown in this youtube video was undeniably beautiful and skillfully crafted. All this took place just steps away from the second largest port in the nation.

The purpose was to demonstrate the devastating effects of pollution on wildlife. As the sculpture deteriorated during the next two days, a sign buried in the sand emerged: “POLLUTION AND BEACH DEVELOPMENT ARE DESTROYING MARINE LIFE THIS QUICKLY.”
