Duggal - A Vision in Green

Since its inception in 1963 by visionary Baldev Duggal, New York City based Duggal Visual Solutions has been a major player and guiding force of the photo-imaging industry. I had the pleasure of meeting the charismatic Baldev several years ago through my buddy Jay Tanen, and am happy to learn of Duggal’s new Green Initiative — focused on eco- paper, printing and practices.

Duggal’s EcoLounge, (above), is a gallery whereby clients can view first-hand the beautiful images that are being produced by using eco-conscious materials and methods.
Recently launched EcoImaging includes an entirely new line of 20 sustainable products that are eco-friendly with materials ranging from Forest Stewardship Council certified (FSC) fine art papers to biodegradable grand format materials that can meet a wide range of visual needs. It also features inks that significantly reduce the impact on the environment.
Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of conservation and nonviolence and coinciding with Satya Graha Forum’s month-long celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s life, Duggal installed 8 sustainable billboards citywide to help” build industry-wide awareness and drive a market for a new generation of eco-friendly materials.” The billboards feature serene photographs of natural landscapes by Antonio Vizcaino and are printed on EcoFlex, EcoMesh, and EcoBacklit — all part of the new EcoImaging line.
On the horizon is the Duggal Greenhouse — a state of the art production and R&D laboratory designed to help lead the way for industrial spaces to become green in NYC.
In an industry that traditionally isn’t associated with being very green — most billboards are made with PVC, taking thousands of years to biodegrade — Duggal’s latest eco efforts and long-term commitments regarding paper, printing and practices are truly impressive.
