One of my favorite summer pursuits is going to green markets all over the city. Somehow, that country flavor helps keep things in perspective. Depending on the day of the week, I usually graze the outdoor markets on West 57th Street, Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, and my favorite, Union Square.

Whether you’re city or country-bound try to seek out farm stands and green markets to support local growers and producers for the best-tasting food money can buy, and feel good knowing that you’ve done a little to fight carbon emissions by not buying food that’s been shipped long-distances.
A little bird recommends the Stuy Town Greenmarket, open Sundays 9:30a – 4p, through November 23, 2008. Located at: Stuyvesant Town Oval (south side, between 16 & 18th Sts and Ave A & B — entrance off 14th St & Avenue A. Visit stuytown.com for more info.
