siemens puts more Eco Vision in cellphones

Alright this is still only a ‘concept’ phone but it does show green innovation is on the mind of even the stodgiest of corporate behemoths like Siemens. The Gigaset Eco Vision’s ‘Leaf’ and ‘Solar’ phones provide a glimpse of the future in handsets. Made of recyclable raw materials and powered completely by solar energy.

Has to be said, I think these look quite good. I do think we need to get away from every green-technology being so blatantly green by design (pictures of grass/trees on the cover, or actually coloured green) and instead begin embracing it as the norm.
I think the mega corporations traditionally have been so far removed from sustainable design that it really wasn’t an issue as long as they sold their widgets. Now part of the motivaton for the development of ‘greener’ solutions is the corporate realization that it can be used as a marketing advantage so they hit you over the head with it. Phase one.

Well looks like a pretty cool “green” idea incorporated into a cellphone. I shall be on the lookout for the latest model and perhaps I should consider getting one of those. Nice touch there and way to go Siemens
