EcoDriving USA - helping you drive greener

I just saw John McCain ridiculing Barack Obama’s reference to adjusting tire pressure as a small part of the  fight to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.  Funny guy.

The fact is that changing the way we drive and maintain our vehicles can significantly reduce our carbon footprint and gas consumption.  A new website, EcoDriving USA, has created a video that provides some valuable tips.   Appropriately enough, the EcoDriving site is sponsored by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers who are supporting the transition to greener driving habits.  The automobile industry may actually be wising-up.

Some helpful info from the EcoDriving site:

  • Every 5 mph over 60 mph you drive costs you 20 cents a gallon in gas
  • Properly inflating your tires can boost your gas mileage 3%
  • Avoid stops and starts; rapid acceleration can cost you $1 a gallon in fuel economy
  • To cool off, open your windows under 40 mph, and use the AC over 40 mph

In conjunction with the introduction of EcoDriving, the National  Automobile Dealer’s Association announced that September will be “Free Green Check-up Month” nationwide.

    Hi,

I apply the eco driving rules as mentioned in this blog for a long while now and you save a lot of gas with it.

Okay, since I admitted to driving an SUV I’ve caught a ton of slack but now I can still green my driving. Thanks for this. I’ll have to alert the troops.

It actually makes sense that auto makers support “greener” driving; if consumers don’t think they can improve their gas mileage and can’t afford gas, then they’ll drive less, which will negatively affect the automobile industry. Inspiring faith in driving again helps them out.

Very helpful statistics to put things into perspective and help people realize what they can do to save on gas while still being able to drive.
    Thanks!
