I’m reusing my grocery bags and recycling everything possible!!

  2. commentskarissa Sep 5, 2008

My family and I have completely switched our laundry and all cleaning supplies to green. (yes no fabric softner! that was the hardest for me) we use lots of vinegar, it dries and the smell goes away, our towels absorb more too! We recycle as much as possible and we use a water conservation kit on all of our sinks and in our toilets too! I am sure I am leaving tons of stuff out, but we did a major overhaul to make our lives feel greener and healthier. It worked!
thanks for this giveaway! what a generous prize!

  3. commentsStacy Sep 5, 2008

Cloth bags for shopping-changing lightbulbs-mowing less often-carpooling/or making one trip to do all our errands-using new green cleaners-recycling everything we can-thanks for a great giveaway!

  4. commentsAlicia Webster Sep 5, 2008

We have three children who are all under the age of three, none of whom are potty-trained. (I know, I know, I’m working on it) So we go through a tremendous amount of diapers, and that is why we use nothing but cloth diapers. People might think that it would be a lot of extra work, but it’s really not. Also, our kids have never had any diaper rashes, which just amazes my pediatrician. We save money, and we feel very good about not contributing to our already over-burdened landfills.

  5. commentsLinda White Sep 5, 2008

We use plastic grocery bags for trash can liners, use the squiggly light bulbs, try not to drive if not necessary!

  6. commentsBetty King Sep 5, 2008

I am no longer excepting plastic bags at any of the stores I shop at. I make my own totes out of old clothes for myself and my family also. I also make my own Christmas Wrap from scrap of cloth and clothing from resale shops or even hand me downs that dont fit any of us. Not only am I saving the enviroment but I am also learning to relax by sewing.

  56. commentsDeborah Stinson Sep 5, 2008

We ride our bikes for quick trips to the store and try to consolidate trips in the car. Basically the car is used just to go to work. I have a few energy saving light bulbs and plan to replace all the bulbs at some point. I have hardly ever used a great deal of chemicals for cleaning and prefer vinegar and water, baking soda and lemon juice to replace harsh chemicals. We use a recycle bin for plastic bottles and such and reuse as many things as possible. We try to conserve on electricity, water, gas, not only to consume less but also to save money. Next year, I plan to do a vegetable garden.

  57. commentsMya Brooks Sep 5, 2008

I use my own cloth bags when shopping. I recycle everything possible. If I can’t recycle, I use freecycle. I hang out clothes instead of using the dryer. I use green cleaner, mostly vinegar and baking soda. I would love to start worm composting.

we go hiking once a weeek and clean up trash.

  64. commentsSheila K. Sep 5, 2008

I shop the local farmers’ markets for local faire. A treat when I was a kid was going to the local fruit and vegetable stands with my mom, and deciding which recipes we would make once we got the produce home. She and my grandmother also taught me to compost produce scraps, and to grow fruit trees and vegetable plants on our property. They also taught me to wash dishes in a dishpan and discard the water outside at the base of trees or bushes. They taught me how to conserve fuel in the home while cooking, and to shut out the lights when leaving a room as well. In order to save gasoline, I line up errands in the same vicinity to accomplish on one trip, instead of making several trips in my car.

We’ve always recycled, but now we also do not buy any juice boxes. That is huge with 4 kids. They take thermoses to school too. We also use reusable plastic containers rather then sandwich bags. We’ve replaced all our light bulbs to compact fluorescents, we use cloth diapers with baby #4 (a HUGE change for me!) and I use only laundry/washing/cleaning products that are phosphate free, organic and good for both us AND the environment.
The biggest thing we’ve done though, is raising four little boys that truly care about our world and our environment. For them all of this is what is SUPPOSED to be done. It is not unusual or a burden. We hope they will pass this on to their kids thus making the biggest impact of all.

We grow most of our own vegetables without pesticides; make attractive habitats for the wildlife; compost; reuse and repurpose objects; buy local; recycle plastic, tin, glass, newspapers, & magazines; post giveaways on FreeCycle instead of putting them in the landfill; shop at thrift stores and yard sales so we don’t contribute to even more production; use green cleaners; combine errands when going in the car; cut up worn shirts, sheets, & towels for cleaning cloths. There are many more things we do to be green, and we’re always looking for more ways to lessen our footprint to help the environment.

  295. commentsPaula H Sep 10, 2008

I am making my own home cleaning products. For example, here’s a recipe for a natural home cleaning product. It is easy to make, safe for the family and contains no toxic ingredients. It is a Creamy Soft Scrubber. You simply pour about 1/2 cup of baking soda into a bowl, and add enough liquid detergent to make a texture like frosting. Scoop the mixture onto a sponge, and wash the surface. This is the perfect recipe for cleaning the bathtub because it rinses easily and doesn’t leave grit. Add 1 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin to the mixture and store in a sealed glass jar, to keep the product moist. Otherwise just make as much as you need at a time. I have been using this for the past 3 months or so and it works fabulously!

We have started composting, replacing appliaces with energy efficiant ones, taking shorter showers, washing clothes in cold water, and hanging clothes outside on a nice day instead of using the dryer.

I recycle cans and bottles. I use cold water in clothes washing whenever feasible. I am also trying to use more enviromentally friendly cleaning products.

I always use cloth bags while grocery shopping. I am condensing errands so they are once a week insead of almost every day. We also recycle.

I got a outlet strip with individual switches to hold all the charging devices for various gadgets. This way I just turn on the charger I need and leave the other’s off.

So much more lately… Bought some tote bags that I use at all kinds of stores, recycle as much as the city lets me and sold my gas guzzler. Asking for a Sigg water bottle for my bday, so that will cut down on the number of plastic bottles I use.

I make sure everyone in my family recycles everthing possible; newspapers, mail, cans, plastics.

I’ve replaced all my light bulbs with the energy saving ones and they light up just as good and last a lot longer, too.

We recycle cans and bottles and we try to walk places now instead of using the car to run errands close by.

Natural cleansers like vinegar and baking soda do a great job without harming the planet. I use reusable grocery bags, recycle and compost and try to conserve gas by driving much less. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

“Kudos” to everyone who is going greener. Living in an apartment gives me more restrictions than being a home owner but this does not discourage me. I have switched from bottle water to filtered water from the faucet, changed out lightbulbs in my home, using greener cleaning supplies, and going down to a two car family to a one car family. I also have carried this over to my students in my classroom. We recycle what we can at school, use less paper by using back and front, and making consumerable workbooks into non-consumerable workbooks. Future plans include making my grocery bags out of old clothes.

I want to thank you so much for the giveaway. I NEVER win anything, so this is a special joy. Plus my resolve to get serious about reuse, reducing, and recycling has been strengthened by this win. I will spread the word, and try to make a difference in this corner of our universe! Thanks again.

I am an environmentally aware pet owner who desperately needs a good vacuum. I have a cocker spanial and 4 cats ( two long haired!). This would be the best of both worlds…keeping my enviroment clean and helping the world’s environment. HOPE I WIN !!!! :)
