Oh, what a tasty bowl of corporate hypocrisy! Kellogg has decided to drop Olympic medalist and bong boy Michael Phelps over that picture of him partaking of a little ganja from a festive, fruit-colored bong. Let’s ignore for uno momento the fact that Kellogg has previously had no problem with Mr. Phelps publicly ingesting vast quantities of equally intoxicating and more vile, alcohol. What about Kellogg’s own propensity for foisting sugar laden, health endangering confections such as Cheez-Its, Pop Tarts, Eggos, Fruit Loops and my personal favorite – Kellogg’s Disney Hannah Montana cereal with strawberry milkshake flavoring – on the impressionable kiddies of America?
Remember kids, we’re told unbridled marijuana use can lead to harder drugs, whereas a two-pack-a-day Pop Tart habit may only expand your waistline 5 or 6 inches, and get you hooked on insulin to treat your future diabetes problem. Not to mention the countless bong toking consumers who feed their ensuing demand for munchies with Kellogg products…wait, I see a marketing tie-in here…
More bad news for the brand from Battle Creek…Kellogg — they recently recalled some batches of Keebler Soft Batch Homestyle Chocolate Chunk cookies, Oatmeal Raisin cookies and Special K Protein Meal Bars for possibly containing that special ingrediant, salmonella.

Your post gave me a good giggle while reading-thanks!
Ah, yes, Kellogg!! That purveyor of the main 4 food groups…salt, sugar, oil and preservatives. Holier than thou!! Yah, sure!!
All the sudden it sucks to be $uperman! I did, however, lose a little respect for Mr. Phelps for not being a little more pro-ganja…He had the perfect opportunity to say “Hey all you crazy right-wing drug-nazi’s… I just won 8 f’n gold medals, beat all kinds of records in the Olympics, and yes occasionally I get high”. I am sure it is hard with that kinda money on the line but I am also guessing that financially he would still be OK.
Talk about a green economic stimulus package, they should just legalize it and tax the crap out of it like Cigs & Alcohol.
Kellogg = or > Proctor & Gamble
Great post!
Just my 2 cents…
Yeah Phelps could have gone ‘green’ and endorsed the maryjane. I also feel the reaction by the sporting press was muted because most of those guys have seen the business end of a bong or two.
As you’ve read above, cereal giant Kellogg’s has announced that it won’t renew Olympic swim champion Michael Phelps’ endorsement contract because he was photographed smoking marijuana.
If Phelps had been photographed hoisting a Budweiser, no one would have said a word. In fact, Phelps was arrested for drunk driving in 2004 — which could have resulted in someone being hurt or killed — and Kellogg’s never took issue with that. Alcohol is far more toxic and addictive than marijuana and tends to make users reckless, aggressive, and violent.
Would you take a minute to speak out against this hypocrisy, by adding your voice to the hundreds of thousands of people who are pledging to boycott Kellogg’s products until the company changes its decision? Just visit MPP’s action center @

What a great post! I agree with you all- last time I checked refined sugar was way worse than a natural herb. I also find it funny that he’s being punished not for a drug that could’ve enhanced his performance, but for one that could’ve potentially lessened it. In closing, where did they think he got such a huge appetite from? =)
I need some numbers on munchies-induced consumption of Kellogg related products…
