We’ve tested the Eco Canteen and it works great as a cold beverage container. This dishwasher friendly re-usable water bottle is constructed of non-porous, food-grade stainless steel.

The bottle’s cap features a handy carabiner clip so you can attach it to anything from a baby stroller to mountain climbing equipment. Included is a sleek neoprene pouch, (with detachable straps), for insulation and ease in carrying. Note – be sure to simply rinse cap in mild soapy water, it’s not dishwasher safe.
26 oz. adult canteens go for a very reasonable, $9.99/each @ ecocanteen.com; the 16 oz. kiddie version goes for $8.95

EcoCanteen took advantage of my elderly mother on a fixed income. She just wanted to do something nice for her children, so she ordered two by phone. The representative apparently did some fast talking and had her “upgrade” the canteen top to a metal one ballooning the $9.99 canteen into $17.94 each, and “upgrade” to rush shipping which meant that she would “go to the head of the line” (as customer service explained to me) receiving the bottles in 2 weeks instead of 4. Shipping/handling totaled $29.64. To be fair, this S/H includes the 5.95 charge each for the processing and handling of the “FREE” insulated tote! But wait, it gets better – they also threw in a “free” distiller! Come to find out that it is free for 30 days after which time you are charged $279.80. My mother did not realize any of this. You and I might be able to keep up, but at 79 years old, my mother is in tears at the $75 she must now pay for the gifts she thought would cost $20.
EcoCanteen behaved unconscionably. When I called to find out how my Mom got talked into all the extra charges, the representative says “we treat everyone the same”. Nice to know.
I, too, was surprised by the high S/H charges. Never saw the total, until I submitted the payment. Then I saw where the S/H fees were higher than the actual product. Immediately called, stating my concern, only to be told my order could not be pulled up by Customer Service for 24 hours. After reading the other bad experiences, and the additional charges from other vendors, I called my credit card company and had them immediately cancel that card, and reissue me another. No charges for me…
I, too was disgusted to have a $188 bill from ordering 3 regular and 3 child size bottles. The bottles are fine but I was ripped off and think it is sad these people are taking advantage of customers – if they performed their business honestly, they would do a much better business because people would tell others about them; as it is I will not order more or recommend to anyone.
Ouch!! Sounds like the company’s TV offer is a rip-off. Sorry to hear about these unfortunate experiences…if you decide to order from them, all I can say is, stick to ordering via their Web site.
