UDATE: July 28, 2009 - Here’s a Marcal small steps store locator (original post, follows…)
Marcal Paper Products is not really a newcomer to the eco movement; as the company states, they’ve been “saving trees since 1950.”

Last month they began to roll-out Small Steps, a new eco friendly line of bath tissue, paper towels, napkins and facial tissue; and they asked us if we’d like to check it out. We said, sure.
A quick note — I’ve made a concerted effort over the past few years to limit my use of paper products. On the occasions whereby I do use paper products, I use them sparingly and conservatively. We gave this new line a try, (all but the everyday paper napkins), and here’s what we think.
Planet-friendly perks: No trees were used in the making of these products. Made from one hundred percent recycled content; thirty percent minimum post-consumer content. The paper is white, but manufactured without chlorine bleach. Hypoallergenic, made without dyes or fragrance, and lint-free. Marcal estimates that if every household in the US replaced one traditional box of tissues with a box of 100 percent recycled tissues, we would save a million trees. (prices below are per my visit to Fairway Market, in nyc)
facial tissue – a fairly soft, 2-ply tissue. Good for normal use, neither the softest nor roughest tissue on the planet; however, I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re experiencing a constantly runny nose or severe cold. Attractive box, made of recycled paperboard. ($1.19/rectangular box, 144 2-ply tissues)
paper towels – we really like the size, (5.7inches wide), 2-ply. Absorbent, effective, easy to perforate. (6 roll package, $10.49)
bath tissue – sheets are super-thin, but surprisingly effective. Gentle to ok on skin. Septic safe. 1000 sheets/roll. (12 pack, $9.99)
dinner napkins - first-rate. Soft, strong, absorbent, 2-ply. Convenient “snapack” for easy opening, storage and dispensing. (100, 17 in x 15 in) is not available at Fairway; $2.64/pack, elsewhere.
We’ve tried the other eco brands out there, and we like Marcal’s line the most. Small Steps minimizes the eco guilt you may experience from using paper products; and if you’re concerned about paying a premium for green products, it doesn’t cost more than most of the non-green brands. If we all take small steps, we can make a big difference. more @ marcalsmallsteps.com (The Website’s Store Locator is being refined at the moment, and according to folks commenting on this post — it seems advertising is ahead of distribution. Go figure.)

Where can we buy Marcal products? I can’t find a single store that sells them in Maryland :(
Hi Aishah,
They’re beginning the nationwide roll out in the northeast — look for Small Steps in Shop Rite. I’ve contacted the company on your behalf, when I have more details regarding Maryland, I’ll let you know. (the new Website is supposed to be up by mid-March.) Hang in there!
I found a coupon for this in my Sunday paper but when I looked for it I couldn’t find it either! Do you know any stores in the Carmel, IN area that carries it? Thanks, Deb
Can’t find it here in Atlanta, either.
please edit my email ddress to:
Note: done
-Thanks
My comment is the same as others I see here – I’d like to know where to buy these products in my area. I think you should put a store locater field on this website – somewhere we could plug in our zip code and find a store that sells your products. Thanks!
This is crazy…. I live in NC and I can’t find it either.
I can’t find ‘Small Steps’ in the Raleigh, NC area
If you cannot find it in your area, contact your local retailer. Go to their website and request they carry the product
Friend of mine works for Marcal…….they say in Maryland go to Giant Food, for North Carolina & Atlanta, try Kroger & Ingles
For Indiana….. go to Kroger, Meijer or Kmart
I haven’t seen the Smart Steps sub-brand yet, but in Wisconsin you can find Marcal’s general recycled peoducts at Woodman’s markets. I discovered this brand by accident when I lived in NYC and Marcal was the cheapest brand of TP sold at the 24-hour bodega on my corner. They’re been selling recycled stuff for ages — without much fanfare. I hope this new push will extend their distribution!
Where can these products be found in VIRGINIA?? There were coupons in our newspaper for a FREE roll of Marcal single roll paper towels, toilet tissue or kleenex and there’s no place to buy it!!!
I’m in Va and Kroger has a large pk of the free item, but u can only get 1 roll free which they do not have. I tried Wal Greens, Food lion Kroger, NO LUCK>>>>. Thanks, Maggie
where can I find a store to buy this product in orlando florida or kissimmee?
Would love to try your product. I live in the Philadelphia area and shop at Giant. I’ve been looking for it but so far no Small step!
I have coupons and everyone needs to use coupons to get by, I cannot find this product either in Portland Maine area or Putnam County, New York. Pls advise where I can buy this product.
I got a coupon for free Marcal small step single roll of toilet paper and I can’t find it anywhere. I live in Puyallup, Wa
I have coupons for the free single roll bath tissue of marcal small steps. I have tried a number of stores in my area and I can’t find these single rolls. I was wondering if I could have an address that I could mail the coupons to your company and you could mail me the tissue? Please advise and I will gladly provide my address.
Thank you in advance for your generous offer.
Sherri
HI! I AM ALSO HAVING A PROBLEM FINDING THIS PRODUCT TO USE MY COUPON IN GREER SC
Why offer a free coupon if this product isn’t available anywhere? Bad marketing and won’t get new customers this way.
Hi I have a coupon for a free 1 roll pkg but I cannot find them in Durham. Could you please let me know which stores in NC have this size? Thanks
Linda,
According to the list above, your best bet would be to try the SuperK KMart. Otherwise, it looks like Kroger, Farm Fresh and Ingles might also honor the coupon. I hope you find it.
I really enjoy reading all the posts looking for where to buy Small Steps…I highly recommend all people who CANNOT find Small Steps, contact your local retailer, complain about getting such a high value coupon for a good and useful product YET their store doesn’t carry any Small Steps items!
I know it is not because Marcal has not yet presented the Small Steps items to your local retailers, with all the couponing out there, I am sure they have, the retailers like to think that they know what is best for their consumers andtheir categories….well, maybe NOT this time…..call Publix, Harris Teeter, Food Lion in the Southeast, this might help.
In MD, look at Shoppers for Small Steps, as well as Giants…but you also have Mars Supermarkets and Super Fresh in Baltimore and you can also try Magurders in the Rockville, MD area.
In VA, near Richmond to Norfolk, try Ukrops, Farm Fresh….out in western, VA, try some local retailers who are supplied by Super Valu warehouse in Mechanicville, VA, they carry Small Steps.
I live in a medium-sized town in Western Pennsylvania and I cannot find this brand of paper towels. I got the free coupons in the newspaper, but I can’t use them either! I can’t believe they are this hard to find! Does anyone know who would carry them in Western Pennsylvania?
In Florida some Marcal Small Steps products can be bought at Albertson’s.
Trying to locate your products in St. Louis, Missouri.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
I tried locating it in Dallas, TX but no luck. Have any suggestions? I would love to try the product.
Still no luck finding the single rolls in Colorado. This is very dissapointing.
Michelle, I found it in Dallas at the kroger on mockingbird. Can’t use my free coupon though, because they don’t sell the single rolls.
Try Scott Naturals. It just came out. The price is good and the quality is great. It is easy to find in a variety of supermarkets.
http://www.scottnaturals.com
I found your product at Meijer in Muskegon, MI. My coupon for the free single roll was also good for $1.00 off multipacks. I had multiple coupons and bought 4 packs of toilet paper and double rolls of paper towels for $1.00 each because they were on sale two weeks ago for $2.00.
I tried the free product because I had the coupon too and I couldn’t find the single roll, so I got $1.00 off of a larger pack, but don’t waste your money on it. It is like sandpaper.
Can’t find product in St. Louis?
Didnt find any in Minneapolis/Saint Paul MN too.
I am also in Minneapolis can’t find anywhere MN is not even on there list of states in the store locator
I live in San Antonio, TX and no luck either. Is this product available in the state of Texas? If so, where? Time is running out for my free coupon item.
Where in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area do you find your product. I have looked all over with no luck.
Thank you
Donna Nelson
I have several coupons for free single roll bath tissue but I can’t find a store in Spring Tx. that sells the single roll. Can you tell me where I can redeem these at in Houston TX or Spring TX. ?
Shirley
We’ve contacted Marcal to get an availability update. We’ll post any info when we get it.
Canot find the products for Small Steps Toilet paper or toweling auywhere in Green Bay Wi.
Is this available in the Northwest? I’m in Oregon…
where in the hell can you buy your product in st louis Missouri. Atleast put a locater or a phone number. best of luck in future sales!!! Mike
Why put the coupon out is st louis if you don’t sell the crap!!!!!
Hey Mike,
Couldn’t agree with you more. Seems like a total waste in ad dollars.
Maybe they should try taking bigger steps…
Please tell me what other stores beside Kmart carry the small steps toliet paper or paper towels in Wisconsin because most of the time when you go to Kmart in Hartford, WI they don’t have paper towels or the 4 pack of bath tissue.
It’s gets very discouraging trying to shop for your products as they have to become available at more stores in the area. How about Walmart,
Target, Walgreens, Shopko, or Sentry Food stores?
It’s hard to try your products when their impossible to find. I’m from the Fond Du Lac, WI area.
Hi Sharon. We’ve asked Marcal to update the list of stores where the Small Steps line is available. We aren’t affiliated with them in any way so there’s only so much info we can provide. We originally reviewed the products because of their positive use of recycled paper. Their coordination of coupon publishing and product availability seems disjointed. We’ll post any info we obtain.
It says that small steps are available nationwide at Walgreens,I work for walgreens, and atleast the texas locations do not have them for sure which means they are not nationwide yet!
im in florida and i cannot find one single rool free for my coupon the only place i flound it is office depot but in package so that not goodi want my single one free
So, Marcal sends out a coupon knowing no store will honor for free stuff expecting the consumer will do the push marketing for them at their own local stores. Saves Marcal time AND money, and we *might* get a free roll of TP out of the deal. Um, no thank you. If I’m that desperate for a free roll of thin, itchy TP I’ll steal it from the bathroom at Arby’s.
