Three of us gather for a Tried and True, Green Product Review of True Earth organic wine.  None of us is an aficionado, but we’re up to the task.  We do know good wine from bad.

Earlier this week, we received two complimentary bottles of organic wine, so naturally, we got very thirsty after work last night.  We knocked off True Earth’s 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Petite Sirah while dining on homemade veggie pizza and a side of mixed greens.  A simple repast, accompanied by a twist-off red, flown in from California’s Mendocino County.

How did she taste?  Deliciously smooth.  No heavy lingering residue lining our mouths, as one may experience with a heavy cab.  We recommend this medium-bodied red, “with black cherry, spice notes.”  Nothing fancy, overly complicated or expensive.  Perfect for casual gatherings and light dining.  A word to the wise — this easy pour will sneak up on you — not surprising, since True Earth is produced by Three Thieves.

We awoke this morning, day one of spring, to two hours of snowflakes, followed by intermittent gray and sunny skies in our fair city. This eve we raised a glass of True Earth’s Chardonnay, and toasted the vernal equinox — an opportune time to celebrate Earth’s spins and turns.  The celestial dance. The sun crossed the celestial equator, causing the length of day and night to be almost equal — a state of equilibrium throughout the Earth. But I digress…back to the vino tasting.

Coincidentally, we’ve purchased this baby frequently in the past year or so from our local wine shop on East 54th Street. I like this Chardonnay’s slightly tangy taste.  Neither creamy nor oaky like some other Chardonnays.  As noted on Three Thieve’s Website,”This Chardonnay has a crisp acidity with complex varietal aromas.  Melons and sweet country apples on the nose, with citrus and apple-pear flavors.

Visit threethieves.com.  The three founders/thieves is worth a look-see. True Earth organic wines retail for only $13 a bottle. A true steal.
