IKEA is hoping to light up your summer nights with its new line of SOLIG solar lights. Each light is equipped with a solar cell that transfers the sun’s energy to a rechargeable battery. And as long as the battery is charged, the energy-saving and long-lasting LED bulb will automatically start to shine as soon as night falls.

The outdoor SOLIG lights are thoroughly tested to withstand moisture and rain. Most of the lights retail for $19.99 or less at your local IKEA store or @ ikea.com

Very cool! I want one!

I don’t see the big deal here. These have been sold by Home Depot, Costco, OSH and lots of other stores for years. Nothing new, just a press release by Ikea.
Now if only my local Ikea store will carry them! I looked for them just a few days ago after seeing the lights on the Ikea website and not only does the store not have any in stock, they don’t know when or if they ever will.
the same old patio solar powered nicad battery backed led lights sold at k-mart said to last all night on one sunny day’s charge but only lasts 40 minutes.
how about a roll up solar panels the size of a sheet of paper & twice the battery storage with oled light strips for a few dollars more. then maybe we can talk real lighting breakthoughs.
This is an awesome idea! And if Ikea is the one introducing it, you know that it is going to get to the market soon. Now if only we could get giants like Wal-Mart onto the green bandwagon.
For those who think this is the “same old stuff they sell at Home Depot and K-Mart,” I wouldn’t jump to those conclusions. All solar products are NOT alike and solar technology is evolving FAST. Decent quality solar lighting technology today is better than it was even a year ago. Also, these lights use rechargeable AA batteries which is nice, as they are easily user replaceable when they wear out.
I don’t know for sure that IKEA is using any different technology than the cheapo lights currently on the market, but I don’t think anybody should jump to hasty conclusions about their or anybody else’s solar products… we’re seeing VERY rapid advancement in this field and will continue to see much more. Solar cells will get more efficient AND cheaper, as they have already been doing.
Great offer on these as these are energy savings lights.Outdoor lights makes reception and other parties more attractive.I also know one outdoor lights company which will help in decorating home with wedding lights on wedding day and also on other functions with cheap rates.
