A Tried and True, Green Product Review:   Last weekend, I tried Arm & Hammer’s new Essentials Liquid Laundry Detergent 2X Concentrated, (Mountain Rain).  It blew my dirty socks off.

Into the wash went everything from sheets and towels to jeans, tees, socks, undies and yoga wear.  Folding four loads of wash, I had ample opportunity to get up close and personal with these freshly cleaned threads.  The smooth, silky texture was phenomenal, and everything smelled amazing.

Eco perks:  made with renewable, biodegradable plant-based soaps; no dyes, no phosphates or bleaches, no petroleum-based cleaners, safe for septic systems. Less packaging: 50 fluid ounces = 26 loads.  Because it’s 2x concentrated, you use half the usual amount, save water and less raw materials are needed to manufacture each jug (#2, HDPE plastic).  The smaller container is, of course, easier to carry, and takes up less storage space.

Dye & Perfume Free, or Mountain Rain (50/80/150 oz; $3.99 – $8.99).  Available as powder, Emerald Mist, (60/90 loads; $8.99 – $14.99).  find @ armandhammeressentials.com

Essentials Fabric Softener Sheets (which I forgot to use), have eco cred:  biodegradable softening agents, no petroleum based softeners, and 100 percent recycled paperboard (35% post consumer).

The Essentials line also includes: Multi-Surface Cleaner, Glass Cleaner, Cleaner & Degreaser, Kitty Litter and Natural Deodorant.  You can receive a coupon for $1.00 discount by registering on their site.

on the Web:  Arm & Hammer began packaging baking soda in recycled paperboard in 1907, were the first and only corporate sponsors of the very first Earth Day in 1970 and were the first to debut a non-phosphate laundry detergent (now required of all U.S. detergents).

Essentials Liquid Laundry Detergent really delivers.  Maybe it’s due to plant-based soap (coconut-based surfactants) in combination with “boosted A&H Baking Soda.”  A definite green thumbs up.
