Powerhouse Wind’s single blade residential wind turbine

combined_thinair.jpg

thinair2.jpgA New Zealand company is breaking new wind with its single blade turbine design.  Powerhouse Wind’s Thinair 102 turbine is designed for residential use and is still in the development stage.  Features include its elegant silhouette, low cost, ease of use and extremely quiet operation due to the single blade design.

The Thinair’s 3.6m diameter blade is designed to deliver from 3250 to 5200kWh per year on sites with average wind speeds of 5 to 6m/s (1 meter per second = 2.23mph). The average energy-inefficient American home uses around 10,000 kWh per year.

The turbine’s teetering hub design allows the blade to go horizontal to the ground during dangerous high wind conditions.

cabinets from upcycled suitcases

suitcasevanity_1.jpgsuitcaseliqcab.jpg
Is your studio apartment a little space-challenged?  Freshen up in front of your Vanity Suitcase, or, if what you see in the mirror is just too frightening, hit the Liquor Cabinet for a stiff drink. Products made for the urban nomad – vintage, re-purposed suitcases become functioning mini-cabinets.

Find these or order a custom cabinet from Vanitycase’s Etsy Shop or dig that old suitcase out of the garage and start your own DIY project.

DenHaus – pet crates with style

I’m pretty tired of my shabby metal crate. The eyesore is way more “Oz” than “House Beautiful.”

denhaus2.jpg

denhaus4.jpgdenhaus1_1.jpg

These designer pet dens from DenHaus, though pricey, are much more appealing to my designer tastes.  Constructed of wood or fiberglass, they feature removable doors and plenty of ventilation. They readily integrate into a home’s decor. Now if someone would make them out of sustainable, green, or recycled materials we’d really get my tail wagging.  In a variety of sizes, colors and designs – for both cats and dogs @  DenHaus.com
