The 9,000 New Yorkers who got tickets on Friday the 13th for talking on their cellphones while driving could have used this little baby. The solCHAT Bluetooth speaker phone from Scosche Industries can make blabbing on the phone while driving, a safer, solar-powered endeavor.
The solCHAT is powered by a solar panel and lithium ion rechargeable battery. The gadget’s voice announce technology allows solCHAT to announce calls as they come in so users can keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel while driving. (more…)

In this video, scientists from Essex University test a robotic fish in a study tank at the London Aquarium. The mechanical fish is designed to mimic the movements of a real fish. Its actions are controlled by sensors and autonomous navigational control. The robot, which will eventually be used to detect pollution, is creepily lifelike.

In case you missed it, the U.N. has designated tomorrow, Sunday March 22, World Water Day. In the coming years, water will join oil as a catalyst for both world conflict and cooperation.

This year’s theme is the catchy, Transboundary Water. Surprisingly, there hasn’t been much media coverage of this event, or water-related environmental issues — awareness pales in comparison to Earth Day/Week/Month, (April 22). (more…)

Three of us gather for a Tried and True, Green Product Review of True Earth organic wine. None of us is an aficionado, but we’re up to the task. We do know good wine from bad.

Earlier this week, we received two complimentary bottles of organic wine, so naturally, we got very thirsty after work last night. We knocked off True Earth’s 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Petite Sirah while dining on homemade veggie pizza and a side of mixed greens. A simple repast, accompanied by a twist-off red, flown in from California’s Mendocino County.
How did she taste? Deliciously smooth. No heavy lingering residue (more…)

The economic downturn and a change in public opinion seem to have turned the tide on bottled water. Growth of bottled water sales in the U.S. is dropping from the double digit growth of 2000 to 2008, to less than 1 percent for the next five years.
Thousands of businesses have expensive water coolers that require the delivery of millions of plastic bottles. Switching to a Quench bottleless water cooler, like the Quench 720uv (at left) can eliminate the need for millions of plastic bottled water containers and the trucks that deliver them. The Quench water cooler processes regular tap water to provide chilled and hot water on demand. Quench’s filtration technology keeps water fresh with ultraviolet light in a stainless steel reservoir. The system’s combination of ultraviolet light and reverse osmosis multi-stage filtration keeps water tasting fresh, as well as virus, germ and bacteria-free.
Get off the bottled water merry-go-round — keep those plastic bottles out of the landfill, trucks off the road and save storage space by going bottleless.
Now you can discuss the latest episode of Lost or those AIG bonuses around a greener, more sustainable, water cooler.
