Your local CVS just got a little greener. With its new Earth Essentials line, CVS is joining the growing wave of retailers who are creating their own eco-friendly product lines. The pharmacy and retail chain is launching a new line of eco-friendly plates and bowls made entirely from natural and renewable sugarcane. The products are designed to completely biodegrade within one to three months, making it a greener choice for travel, picnics and parties.
The downside to landfill-bound disposable plastic plates and cookware is well known. Earth Essentials provides a greener option for those times when it’s just not practical to use and transport your best dishes and cloth towels.
Earth Essentials bowls and plates are: microwave and freezer safe, fully compostable, able to handle hot liquids up to 200° F, sterilized and sanitized, strong, and available in unbleached bagasse.
In addition to the line of plates and bowls, the Earth Essentials line also includes paper products recently endorsed by Greenpeace. The selection of paper products made with recycled fiber includes napkins, toilet tissue and paper towels. The line is available at your local CVS and on-line @ cvs.com

I have been using the earth essentials paper
towels for a few weeks now. I seem to be getting little prickly sensations which sometimes
actually presents as little tiny splinters. I
couldn’t imagine what was causing this discomfort
and little pimples on my hands. Is there something
in this product that would cause this problem??
I am about to see a doctor to try and investigate this problem. Please help if you can.
Do you have an answer to Jean Reistrom’s problem sent May 23, 2009, ref: little prickly sensation and tiny splinters appear after using the paper towels? I have started to have the same problem.
Marilyn and Jean,
We have not tested this product line, sometimes recycled paper goods are rougher on the skin but easier on the environment than “virgin paper products.”
My personal advice would be to contact the company directly, and see what they have to say about it. If you do, please let us know how it goes.
Since there may be an allergic reaction of some kind involved, of course, you’ve probably stopped using the product.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Hope you feel better.
