Here’s a home design that will get you living “smaller” and in affordable style.  Stillwater Dwellings designs modular homes that strive to provide the perfect combination of style, cost and sustainability.  The Seattle based firm’s one story, “mini” line (sd-m) comes in two models, the miniONE (370 sq. ft.) and the larger, miniTWO (585 sq. ft. – see floorplan, below).  Designed as a first home, cabin or mother-in-law abode, these pre-built units ship easily and go up fast. Each modular home feature Stillwater’s signature butterfly roofline.

The sd-m home line comes in a choice of three finishes: Fundamental, Natural and Modern. The Fundamental features a cost-effective interior and exterior package that includes: Canyon Creek custom wood cabinets, eco-friendly Marmoleum, durable, stain-resistant Shaw carpets, renewable bamboo hardwood flooring, walls finished with high-quality low-VOC paint, durable James Hardie “HardiPanel” siding and a heating system that warms the home using a high-efficiency 40 and 50 gallon hot water tank, and distributed hydronic wall heaters. Appliances are GE Profile range, microwave, and refrigerator….all included.

The Natural and Modern packages both feature exteriors that make extensive use of verticle cedar tongue & groove siding, stained with 2 coats of high-end Sikkens translucent stain.  Interior finishes, bathrooms, lighting fixtures and appliances are upgraded for style and function. The “Modern” package is modern, sleek, and minimalist. The “Natural” is designed to be simple, clean, and polished, with lots of natural wood and light, airy colors.

First contact to finished home takes about 3 to 4 months with homes arriving on site 95% complete. Prices include every aspect of the home, from the floor structure to the roof, lighting fixtures to plumbing fixtures, and carpet to countertops.  Land purchase, siting costs, taxes etc. are additional.

Stillwater manufactures its homes with the least amount of waste, using renewable materials like bamboo; with decking and countertops that incorporate recycled materials. Energy is saved through their use of high-efficiency lighting fixtures, high-performance insulation, passive cooling and a tight building envelope.

All SD designs are fully customizable.  They also offer the two-story, sd-s line and the totally modular, build-your-own sd-i (interchangeable) line.  Stillwater’s first unit will be finished in June, 2009.
