I have to admit, any individual who adorns her or himself with this solar accessory will definitely attract attention. Student designer, Mae Yokoyama, has created quite the solar conversation piece. Two hours in sunlight will give you four hours of nighttime fun. Just watch out for moths and mosquitoes attracted to the light.
Now, if you can run your iPhone off this or jumpstart your car battery with it, I’m in.

Now that’s wicked cool! Although I agree the chance of death by mosquito inhalation might be rather high. I think through exploration in solar clothing and accessories it will lead to further advances in more solar gear – I can’t wait to see what’s next… perhaps you’ll be able to plug in your solar necklace to power your car. :)
Solar clothing is definitely on the way as photovoltaic material becomes more flexible and lightweight. But do we really need to stay plugged-in and powered up all the time? I think it’s healthy to shut off my cellphone, Blackberry, laptop, iPods and assorted gizmos and go natural once in a while…
I whole heartedly agree we have become too dependent on our techno gear and need some time off to enjoy the natural world around us. But a use I wouldn’t mind seeing for solar clothing is to provide extra heat in the winter time. Imagine just wearing a light solar jacket that provides enough energy/warmth to keep us warm in the middle of a midwestern winter.
