I know what you mean, glass is not conducive to toting around.
Depending on what you're packing, there are a few other options. Preserve makes lightweight food storage containers from recycled materials, and they're recyclable, as well.
HealthyKitchen offers stainless steel containers for storing and transporting food.
And if it's a sandwich, there are reusable wraps that are made of cloth on the outside, with PVC-free lining, and they unfold to become a place mat -- available at GreenTimeCreations via etsy.

After going to a seminar on toxins recently going glass is the only way to go. Hearing about those pesky plastics leaching all over my nice healthy food makes me shudder. I just wish glass wasn't so unwieldy and heavy. What is one to do when bringing food to work for lunch - those big glass containers don't fit in my lunch bag. =\
