When Walmart talks, its suppliers listen. The mega-retailer will soon begin asking its suppliers to provide environmental info on all products carried in its stores. The company will use that information to give each item an eco rating measuring its environmental friendliness.
Though this is a net positive for American consumers, it’s always important to remember that this one of those deals where, ‘bigger’ isn’t always ‘better.’ Keep it local. Support your community businesses, neighborhood shops, and farmers’ markets whenever possible – or someday when you need, them they won’t be there.
