The USDA Forest Service has created an interactive Website and a series of PSA’s intended to inspire tweens (kids 8-12) to re-connect with nature by getting out from in front of the tv and game console and experiencing our national parks and outdoor spaces. The campaign, entitled ‘Where the Other Your Lives’ (created with the help of the non-profit Ad Council) targets a generation that spends 50% less time outdoors than their parents did, just 20 years ago. It’s hoped that the campaign and Website will facilitate more tweens experience firsthand the beauty and diversity of their natural surroundings, and in the process, develop an appreciation for the pressing need to preserve our wild and natural spaces.

For all you parents, do your kids a favor and get them out of your family room and into the great outdoors. The interactive Discover the Forest Website will help you find forests, parks, and outdoor recreational facilities – while providing you with lots of ideas for things to do when you get there.
