Breakout your bong, headband and suede fringe vest. OK, so it’s Woodstock’s 40th Anniversary – who performed back then?

Richie Havens, Ravi Shankar, Arlo Guthrie, Quill, Country Joe McDonald, John Sebastian, Santana, Canned Heat, Mountain, Grateful Dead, Credence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Sly and the Family Stone, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Country Joe and the Fish, 10 Years After, The Band, Blood Sweat and Tears, Johnny Winter, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Sha-na-na, Jimi Hendrix (aka Gypsy, Sun and Rainbows). That was most of the Friday – Monday lineup. Talk about a concert. (Tix cost 18 bucks, comparable to $75 today; but many caught it all for free.)

The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, The Byrds, Bob Dylan, Mind Garage, The Moody Blues, Spirit, and Tommy James and the Shondells all regret declining the invite.

So for all those dirty, music loving hippies out there, Soaptopia is celebrating this momentous occasion by slashing prices on their Woodstock-inspired, handmade soaps (with all natural ingredients, no gunky junk in the bars). Nine, great smelling bars to choose from — Woodstock Revival (cedarwood, sandalwood and cypress); Purple Haze (lavender and patchouli) and Flower Power (ylang ylang, rose geranium, vanilla bean and ginger). That should wet your whistle. hit the site for various deals @ soaptopia.com

We like Soaptopia’s stuff cuz it’s all natural, synthetic-free, petroleum-free, fragrance-free, eco friendly, animal friendly, and most-times, vegan (a few products use wildcrafted honey and beeswax). Peace and love.

The story behind Woodstock is pretty amazing – how it happened (and almost didn’t). “Woodstock: The Oral History,” my 1989 book, which Rolling Stone called “the definitive story” of the event, has just been republished. Check it out (and the audio version, with the voices of the musicians and the folks who made it happen: http://www.woodstockoralhistory.com
hey Joel,
sounds like a cool project, I’ll have to give a listen – love that psychedelic graphic image:)
