Breakout your bong, headband and suede fringe vest.  OK, so it’s Woodstock’s 40th Anniversary – who performed back then?

Richie Havens, Ravi Shankar, Arlo Guthrie, Quill, Country Joe McDonald, John Sebastian, Santana, Canned Heat, Mountain, Grateful Dead, Credence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Sly and the Family Stone, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Country Joe and the Fish, 10 Years After, The Band, Blood Sweat and Tears, Johnny Winter, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Sha-na-na, Jimi Hendrix (aka Gypsy, Sun and Rainbows).  That was most of the Friday – Monday lineup.  Talk about a concert. (Tix cost 18 bucks, comparable to $75 today; but many caught it all for free.)

Here’s an interesting foray into wind power – the Massachusetts Audubon Society is exploring erecting a 50′ tall wind turbine at its Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport.  Though statistics show that house cats, windows and buildings kill millions more birds than wind turbines — the Audubon Society’s decision to explore increasing its green energy production (the center already uses solar panels) via a wind turbine is either a glowing endorsement of wind power, or a pragmatic choice between the danger to our avian friends and the fight against global warming.  The turbine will be temporarily installed to study the potential benefits.  It’s hoped that the 2.2 kilowatt turbine will provide 6 to 10% of the center’s power needs.  The whole deal is dependent on local Planning Board, City Council and neighborhood approval.
