the eniCycle – a gyroscopic electric unicycle

eniCycle1.jpg
The eniCycle is a rechargeable, zero emissions, gyroscope-controlled means of transport that’s probably best suited for circus performers, individuals who are strapped for space and those determined to risk their lives making a statement about alternatives in modern transportation.  Designed by Slovenian engineer Aleksander Polutnik, the eniCycle, though still a prototype, may soon be coming to a bike shop nearby. the elegant Cascata Rain Barrel

cascataLRGsm_1.jpg

When you think of a rain barrel what do you picture?  Don’t you think of a huge ugly barrel that is an eyesore?  I know I do.  Finally here is an attractive alternative for saving rainwater, the Cascata Rain Barrel.  This environmentally friendly water capture device has to be one of the more appealing rain barrels around.  From a distance it looks like a clay pot, however, on closer inspection, you’ll find it’s made from a durable roto-moulded plastic. a lot to say on a little tee

Wear a tee with “virgin” scrawled across the top and you might garner some attention—or cynical stares. Either way, that’s the point, because below those bright, bold letters is smaller type that reads: [virgin] plastic is what most shampoo and conditioner bottles are made from and they add to over 25% of waste in landfills. Not sexy. (But a decidedly sexy stance, no?)

vt1.jpgVT2.jpgVT3.jpg

Made entirely of recycled bottles, these long and short sleeved tees and tanks are by Alot to Say. Created using a no-water printing process called “air dye,” the manufacturing of these sweet shirts requires up to 70 percent less energy and produces zero hazardous by-products. To top it all, every tee is created and manufactured in the U.S., with a percentage of profits going to eco and political charities.

$35.99 a pop at http://shop.alottosay.com/.

a stream of green consciousness

amtrakbullet.jpg

New England states will be amping-up rail service under an ambitious plan that taps into federal stimulus cash to revitalize some sleepy burgs like Springfield, Worcester and Manchester.  New rail lines will connect communities both big and small – from Montreal, Boston and NYC to academic towns like Burlington Vermont and Amherst Massachesettes, in what is now called the ‘Knowledge Corridor.’  If you’ve ever taken Amtrak from Worcester to New York City via freight tracks, you know this rail upgrade is much needed.  Good stuff.

Is there a “Muck Monster” in the waters off West Palm Beach?  Speaking of Florida, judging by the state’s glut of foreclosures and short sales it would appear the industry that is ‘over development’ may have run its course.  Sometimes you have to actually make a product to create jobs, as opposed to attracting new residents with low taxes, cheap housing and destroyed wetlands.  (more…)

BMW’s first gas-electric hybrid on the way

BMW_ActiveHybrid_X6_1.jpg

Next spring, longtime diesel-favoring, car maker BMW plans to debut their first and perhaps only, gas-electric hybrid: the ActiveHybrid X6 “sports activity coupe,” essentially a mini crossover. Blending the smooth appeal and sporty performance of a Bimmer with an electric motor, the vehicle (more…)

seamstudious___1_2_1.JPGHere’s a leash and collar combo that expresses my new found affinity for yoga, meditation and Buddhist principles.

The Good Fortune Collar is adorned with a removable “Stone of Heaven” jade amulet, which I presume provides an abundance of positive doggie karma.  Leash and collar are made of handsome organic cotton, durably strong hemp and eco-friendly dyes.  Created by San Francisco-based designer, Harmony Susalla.
