I was curious to see what products were available in the realm of kitchen composting pails, as the plastic one we are currently using is simply not sufficient. I found three very nice looking pails and one very ugly, bright green one.
All four kitchen composting pails contain a carbon filter to keep odors enclosed within the composting pail (each comes with either a double or triple carbon filter, but extra carbon filters must be purchased separately). Each one also comes with plastic liners that can be used alone or covered with
biodegradable liners. These are optional and must be purchased separately.
The pretty ones only hold a gallon of composting material, whereas a green bulky one holds 2 gallons. The latter one would be more appropriate for our large family, however green, big and bulky it appears. It also happens to be $20 cheaper. Nevertheless, my female inclination is toward anything but big and bulky.
The fancier choices include ceramic, stainless steel and bamboo, an eco friendly and renewable material. These three styles are all priced $39.99. All four composting pails may be found at cleanairgardening.com.

thank you! I’ve been searching for a composting pail. But what does it mean if I kinda like the green one? Great tip about cleanairgardening.com.
Hi Barbara,
You are quite welcome! Well…if you kinda like the green pail then that means you and I just have different tastes! I like the green one’s size and it’s probably a more durable material for my children’s hands than a ceramic one…so I do like certain things about the green one. My eye is just more attracted to the pretty ones.
Thanks for your comment! :-)
Um, yah my first reaction was to say something derogatory about the green one as well, but I suppose as they say one man’s trash (composting pail) is another man’s treasure. I do like the bamboo pail – sexy!
I am glad you refrained from your derogatory comment. Thank you. But I would never have thought to describe a bamboo pail as sexy…that is a new one for me! I appreciate your participation though.
Have a great day!
What, you don’t lie awake at night thinking about sexy bamboo pails? How about sultry, sensuous or sublime? ;) I love the natural wood grain of bamboo products call me crazy but nature and naturally made products is sexy.
Nope. All I can say is, “To each his own.”
Thanks for mentioning Clean Air Gardening!
If you aren’t using a compost pail to collect your vegetable scraps for the compost pile, you should be! You’ll be amazed by how much you collect that you were throwing away before. I empty ours two or three times a week.
That stuff belongs in the composter, and not in a landfill.
We haven’t bought a composting pail yet, only because we’d fill it in a very short time. Last summer we used a large ice cream pail and were emptying it once or twice a day. Plus, our composter is getting full and we’ll have no where to put the compost once it is full. And right now we are waiting to put that fresh compost on our little gardens once the warmer weather arrives.
A good composting pail would probably eliminate the odors of collecting it in an ice cream pail, as well as my husband’s complaints about the odors…(wry smile). All in good time…
