EcoSmart Fire’s – Mini T ethanol fireplace

EcoSmart_Fire___Mini_T_1.JPG

mini_t1.jpgIt almost feels like fall here in NYC – time to start thinking about extending our alfresco dining and outdoor socializing as the temps take a dip and the autumn leaves begin to fall.  One solution – an eco friendly designer outdoor fireplace.  The new Mini T fireplace from Australia’s EcoSmart Fire certainly does the trick. This fireplace features a brushed steel finish and toughened glass surround.

The Mini T is fueled by denatured ethanol, an environmentally friendly, renewable energy source.  EcoSmart Fire makes a wide selection of clean-burning, low maintenance, flueless indoor/outdoor fireplaces. Oh, and through December 2010 the EcoSmart fireplaces qualify for the Federal Tax Credit for Energy Efficiency – which can get you up to a 30% tax credit.

free yoga classes & yoga via the net

If racing to yoga class is taking the bliss out of your downward facing dog, check out yogaglo.com.

yg1.jpg

At a mere $18 a month, you can take several deep breaths in the comfort of wherever you may be, by following a Level 1, 2 or 3 class via the Internet.  As long as you’re online, you’re in. I probably wouldn’t recommend it to first-timers, but to anyone who has experienced yoga and already received first-hand guidance from an expert. As any beginner can attest, there’s oftentimes the need for subtle corrections.

yg2.jpg

Speaking of beginners, if you’re looking to dip your toe in the yoga pool before diving in, now may be the perfect time.  September happens to be national yoga month and several studios are offering free classes for true beginners. Aspiring yogis can sign up for a week of free classes at participating studios, (good through November 1), @ yogamonth.org. namaste.

crate & barrel edging toward eco consciousness

If you love furniture made from wood, investing in pieces that have been slightly used and not abused usually deliver great value.  Antique shops, estate sales and flea markets can be bonanzas if you’re setting up home for the first time, or moving to another part of the world and “starting over.”  Reusing, recycling and reducing (financial cost, as well) at its best. On the flip side, if buying new is the direction you’re heading, be sure to look for FSC (Forest Steward Council Certified) wood, or wood that’s been reclaimed and then transformed in an ecofriendly manner into something exciting.

Crate & Barrel has been edging toward a planet friendly direction over the past few years, and I came across this attractive sideboard from their Paloma Furniture Collection, which appears to have more eco cred than many of their other lines.  Infused with their advertising speak, their description follows: (more…)

Carbon Pulse makes iPhone a little greener

iphfish1.jpgFor $2.99, eco-techies can now fight global warming directly from their iPhones.  The new app, called Carbon Pulse, was developed by Sevencord Studios. The green application is now available on the iPhone App Store.

Press release: Carbon Pulse users can see exactly how their lifestyles are affecting the environment, pledge to take action to help reduce their impact, and track their progress making changes. The application also estimates a user’s carbon emissions based on his or her vehicle, acceleration, distance and time driven during each trip and miles per gallon, then compares that estimate to that of the average U.S. driver. Carbon Pulse users can feel good about their app purchase for another reason: Sevenchord donates a portion of the proceeds from Carbon Pulse sales to clean energy projects. (more…)

Perfectly Imperfect – eco hip simplicity

Why am I so drawn to this crew neck top?

PEGL1.jpgPIGL2.jpg

Aside from the beauty of its quiet French Blue color, it’s the inherent details that deliver a dose of understated elegance in this casual wear.  The snug fit and organic cotton waffle weave afford extra comfort.  But the wow is the half glove that extends from the the sleeve, designed to be worn or tucked up under the sleeve. A smart feature for those with cold hands (and warm hearts).

From Perfectly Imperfect, a brand inspired by the “wabi sabi way of life, an ancient Chinese philosophy that stands for things that are fresh and simple, denoting simplicity, and rustic beauty.”  Organic Gloved Long Sleeve Crew Neck, ($79) @ thegreenloop.com
