You’ve gotta love hearing how companies are coming up with innovative ways to reduce the garbage going into landfills these days. And as a parent, especially after the Thomas the Tank lead paint fiasco, you’ve gotta appreciate companies who are mindful of children’s well-being as they brainstorm about the next new toy to be developed. Green Toys is one of those companies meeting both of these all important criteria that we look for today. Parents and teachers alike will enjoy learning about this kid’s Indoor Gardening Kit.

This cool little green indoor gardening kit, especially designed for kids, is made out of recycled milk jugs. It contains no PBA, no phthalates and no lead paint! And it’s 100% manufactured, assembled, and tested right here in the USA. The kit includes 9 pieces: a peapod shaped planter tray, 3 planning pots, a trowel, 3 soil disks and 3 packets of organic seeds – sunflowers, basil and zinnia.
The packaging included this fun fact:
“Green Toys Save Energy. How much? Glad you asked. On average*, every pound of recycled milk jugs used in the making of Green Toys:
- Saves energy equal to 3,000 AAA batteries.
- Saves enough electricity to power a TV set for 3 whole weeks.
- Saves enough electricity to keep a laptop computer running for a month.
Green Toys are safe, non-toxic and they conform to the requirements of the ASTM Standard Consumer Safety Specification on Toy Safety, F963 and even the product’s packaging is even made from 100% recycled materials.
My younger children and I had fun planting 2-3 seeds of each type of seed. There are plenty of seeds left to plant more in the spring. The soil disks expanded well in very warm water and the plants grew in the time frame the seed packages indicated. We had sunflower seeds popping through in just three days! It’s been awhile since we planted sunflowers, can’t you tell? The soil disks come from Jiffy and the seeds are from Ferry Morse Seed Company.
Green Toys features a wide variety of environmentally friendly toys to meet a growing child’s needs. They seem like the “perfect” alternative toy.
You can find the kit for around $18.99 @ growgreenbaby.com and many other children’s toy stores – store locator
