Any vegan and NYC -based twinkletoes out there? Put your best foot forward and keep it local and vegan by choosing ballet slippers from Cynthia King of Brooklyn.

Dancer, choreographer and dance studio owner Cynthia lives a cruelty-free life and decided one day that she’d like to create 100-percent vegan ballet slippers.

She collaborated with a renowned, local, ballet shoe maker for several months, and now her studio offers supple and durable canvas uppers and synthetic soles (100% vegan/no suede) for $24.95 @ cynthiakingdance.com. Your choice of split sole (just above) or full sole, and available in childrens sizes and adults 5-9 (in white, pink and black).

Great idea. I’m curious what material was used for the sole– is it eco-friendly?
Hi Kirsten,
We’ve contacted Cynthia and are waiting to hear back. We’ll let you know – stay tuned.

Here’s what Tracy Shields of Cynthia King Dance Studio told us:
“The soles of the shoes are currently made of vinyl. We continue to research and experiment with several textiles made of recycled materials that can also withstand the wear and tear of daily dancing, and keep the slippers at a price accessible to everyone.
Using cruelty free ballet slippers directly conserves natural resources and saves lives.
You not only help save the lives of the animals used in the production of shoes, but you also help to conserve the habitat of many others. Gorillas, chimpanzees, and many other species face deforestation and homelessness every day due to unnecessary destruction of their habitats for livestock production.
Waterways around the world continue to suffer lingering effects of pollution from factory farms and tanneries, some closed generations ago.
When you choose Cynthia King Vegan Ballet Slippers you have taken a graceful step towards improving our environment and reducing cruelty to animals.
Also, FYI the slippers are available in pink, but are easily dyeable. We also ship throughout the US and internationally, so you don’t have to be a New Yorker to access these.”
