Too much of anything is usually not a good thing — case in point: over-consumption. Life generally works best when things are in balance.
Today has been deemed, Buy Nothing Day, which may be the yin to Black Friday’s yang. I like the idea of Buy Nothing Day, especially since it’s earmarked for Black Friday, November 27 in North America, (November 28, internationally). There’s really no good reason to over-consume, it’s not healthy for us humans or the planet. Let’s do what we do everyday — live consciously and considerately. Speaking from a strictly holistic point of view (as I am in that field) I can tell you that the most satisfied people are those who do not let “things” rule their lives. The true focus of Christmas seems to have shifted from a day to celebrate The Almighty to a day to see how much we can purchase for the almighty dollar. I’m so glad that someone finally vocalized what’s been in my heart for years. Keep up the good work; I hope this article reaches the hearts of good people everywhere who will decide to stop this madness.
A fabulous idea, and hope that the idea quickly grows for subsequent years. However, as much as coinciding with black friday creates a notable point of contrast, maybe it would gain more traction in the mainstream if a different date was chosen.
