Here’s a link to  webcam photos of the Sea Shepherd’s ‘Ady Gil’ taking to sea.  The high-speed stealth vessel will be used to elude the Japanese whaling fleet’s ship currently tailing the MV Steve Irwin – hindering its efforts to disrupt illegal whaling.

natural & recycled tire doormats

adm1a.jpgadm2a.jpgadm3a.jpg

A friend recently bought a new home in New Jersey and I’ve been helping her move in.  When six inches of fresh powder hit the other day, I noticed that there wasn’t a doormat by any of the doors, so a quick search began for an eco friendly doormat with style and personality, and here are some of the standouts.

adm5a.jpgadm7a.jpgadm6a.jpg

Many eco doormats are made of either recycled rubber or natural coir (coconut husk), and others may be comprised of recycled plastic, PET.  I also found the elusive mat made of surplus foam from the production of flip-flops.  From Upper Left to Lower Right, (above):

  • re:modern stocks both the manhole made from recycled tires ($30), as well as the flip-flop material, ($24)
  • Perfect for when the inlaws or rugrats visit, I Am Not Your Doormat ($29) from funhousewares.com
  • Welcome, Come In or Go Away and Moose motif, all made of coir with vinyl backing, ($19.99) @ cocomatsnmore.com.

Which one did I buy?  Surprisingly, none of these.  While picking up some supplies at Shop-Rite, I happened to spot an attractive recycled rubber Welcome mat made in the USA by Apache Mills, so I picked it up on the spot, ($12.99).  It looks great, and definitely adds an element of warmth to the entry.

golfbagw_decal_1.jpg

For the grunge golfer or hipster in your foursome – this vintage golf bag will provide a subtle style statement to help differentiate them from the rest of the cookie-cutter Tiger Woods crowd.

Design studio, BrightWall has added a hand-painted Shooter silhouette to a faux leather, vintage, Arnold Palmer golf bag.

How very Guy Ritchie.

Sometimes it just takes a small  DIY flourish to turn the mundane into the exceptional.
