Hybrid heavyweight Toyota has taken the wraps off of its newest concept – the FT-CH, a car that will fill the gap as hybrid drivers navigate the onslaught of plug-in vehicles, electric cars and fuel cells. Similar in size to the popular Prius, the FT-CH (the “CH” stands for compact hybrid) and its retro styling was inspired by the ’80s appeal of yesteryear’s video games – and Toyota is hoping that it captures the attention of today’s youth. To make the four-seat ride even more attractive to teens and 20-somethings, it will feature a price tag just less than Prius.

A bit smaller and a bit sleeker than the hybrids in Toyota showrooms today, the FT-CH is designed with passenger comfort in mind, offering a roominess not necessarily observed from outside the vehicle, according to Toyota. Combine the cool, comfy interior with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain and the car company may just have a new eco champion on its hands. That said, this concept has not been confirmed as a sure bet for future production. For the time being, we’ll just have to cross our fingers…
