Here’s a great way for salons, dog groomers and people who obsessively cut, and/or, collect hair to contribute to fighting oil spills.
Human hair and animal fur do a great job of absorbing oil while allowing water to pass through, making them a great lining for the booms and mats used to contain oil spills. The folks at Matter of Trust can help you get your hair where it’s needed most right now.
Ask your hair salon or dog groomer to get involved. It’s also a great opportunity for teachers to get their students involved in both current events and helping the eco system. Matter of Trust will get you started with all the info you need.
You can also donate cash to Matter of Trust directly, to help fund their educational and planet-friendly programs.

I believe that the school districts in and around the Indianapolis area could contribute greatly to this cause. In Indiana, we tend to feel removed from the tragedy of the oil spill in the gulf yet we need to bring this tragedy home to anyone who uses oil as an energy source. I have long hair and have worn it long most all my life. I love my hair as all those who know me will testify. And yet the small amount of my hair seems insignificant to the vastness of the problem at hand. I think the younger generation would jump at the chance to know that there is something HUGE that they can do to make their seemingly small insignificant voices SHOUT to the world that what us grown-ups have done is NOT OKAY. AND THAT THEIR VOICES WILL BE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR by this movement. I’m just a grand-ma. I do not work and would love to put my energy into doing something about all of this. I do not know where to start. Can you help me? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Grandma Reane
