eco fashion friday finds – turn up the green

Having uncovered REVEAL (above) I found a lot to like:  from sleek looking and sustainably made accessories for both men and women, to their give back to the planet program.

Some personal faves are from their men’s collection — bamboo watches, cufflinks & eyeglass frames; Bambud (bamboo) earbuds; eco denim laptop bag; and Quilted E-reader Case made of reclaimed water bottles & recycled zippers.  Unlike other eco luxury lines, REVEAL’s prices won’t empty your bank account.

Loving these great new pieces, (L to R, above) all 20% off with discount code “happyanniversary” through 8/31 @ kaightShop.com:

  • 4-in-1 dress by STUDY.  Seriously smart.  Shifts from halter dress to drop shoulder high neck dress.  Or playsuit to loose jacket/oversized shrug.  In soft bamboo jersey with recycled vintage buttons…one size fits most;  ($180)
  • Prairie Underground Carpenter Jeans in 100% organic cotton; ($175)
  • Sexy Gala Jumper – strapless + dark navy linen + 4 cute pockets + ability to cuff = perky comfort; made in NYC; ($250)

Beautiful News – Congrats to Amanda and our friends at the Andean Collection!  They’ve created an exclusive, sustainably-made piece for Anthropologie (above) — the Perfect Skippers Tagua Bib necklace in red, turquoise, lavender or grey; ($68).

Sporting a redesigned site, I had to checkout Enamore‘s new look…true to form, I never tire of this extraordinary eco lingerie from across the pond – whether blushing bride or naughty vixen, they’ve got you covered in sustainably chic little ditties.

That wraps up this week’s edition of what caught my fancy in fashion.  A little under four weeks of summer left, so enjoy your weekend. Hope it’s relaxing and fun.

salvaged wood becomes minimalist designer furniture – eric manigian studio

manigdeskedge.jpg

Eric Manigian designs and builds handcrafted furniture that features robust grain patterns, sculptural shapes and the natural contours of each carefully selected piece of lumber.  Eric obtains much of his raw materials from local millers who utilize their relationships with local arborists, tree surgeons and construction managers to obtain salvaged and reclaimed wood that would otherwise be landfill bound.

Each piece retains the form and characteristics of the original wood, making them uniquely one of a kind.  We feature some of the pieces from his Bandwidth Series, below:

Top Ten Greenest Storage Facilities in the US

Moving and temporarily storing your valuables can be a messy job, with the potential to create a lot of waste.  Guest Blogger, Art Decker is a division manager with Self Storage Company, which operates a group of websites, including a storagecalifornia.com, a California self-storage locator.  Art is currently leading a green initiative within his company, called ìMake Yourself Green, which is focused on promoting green practices within the self storage industry and he shares his Top 10 with us.

LEED certification and green technology are hot trends in self-storage right now. Below, I have listed what I believe are the 10 most ecofriendly self-storage facilities or self-storage development companies in the U.S. Most of the facilities on this list are or soon will be LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

  • Castle & Cooke Self-storage, of Mililani Mauka, Hawaii. This facility (pictured above) is notable because its parent company, Castle & Cooke (which also develops residential communities) has built a large solar photovoltaic farm, and is also testing wind power energy sources. The company is working to have all of its facilities LEED certified, but its newest project in Mililani Mauka was designed from the start to be environmentally friendly.
  • iStoreGreen of Brooklyn, New York. iStoreGreen of New York City ís the first green self-storage company, as well as being the largest green business of any kind in New York City. It has been certified as green by Green-e. iStoreGreen gets all of its electricity from renewable sources, heats its hot water using solar energy, and uses excess heat in some parts of the facility to heat other parts of the building.
