thought provoking – Think – organic cotton t shirt

thinkshirt1.jpg

Peticotees – a couple of talented ladies from “down under” – design and manufacture these organic cotton t-shirts featuring a questioning canine.  Given our collective level of confusion perhaps we should all “Think” just a little more.  Printed with water-based inks.

This unisex tee is available at petcotees’ Etsy shop for $29.50 and shipped from Australia.

Maggie’s Organics – a tried and true green product review

I recently received three complimentary garments from Maggie’s Organics for the purposes of this review.  After lots of wash and wear, here’s the verdict…

mag1.jpg

I’ve gotta say, for comfort, casual style and price – Maggie’s just can’t be beat.  I’ve worn these black knit pants, footless tights and wrap too many times to count over the past few weeks… they’re great basics…on-trend, versatile and comfy.

The knit pants have a loose straight leg so I can wear just about any shoe, sneaker, slide or boot with them.  I’ve paired the footless tights with tunics or worn them for yoga class – they’re so comfy sometimes I forget I even have them on:)  And the wrap is a fave go-to piece, as well…perfect over a cute cami and pants, jeans or a skirt.

Best part — they have a generous cut, and run true to size.  There’s no need to “size up” for fear of the items being too small.  Although (more…)

keeping it clean – protect yourself from germs naturally

iStock_000005073378XSmall.jpg

There are millions of germs on things we touch everyday, and because they’re invisible, we don’t even realize that we’re in contact with them. Here is a list some of the most dirty-germ-infested surfaces, and what we can do to protect ourselves with products made with planet- and body-friendly ingredients.

1.  Unwashed Fruits and Vegetables – according to Dec 2010’s issue of Glamour Magazine, unwashed fruits and veggies are some of the most dirty things you can touch.  The grocery store mist creates a moist environment and makes it an optimal breeding ground for germs, not to mention people continuously touch the produce throughout the day.

In order to kill these germs, give your produce a vinegar wash; vinegar is a natural disinfectant and will get rid of more germs than washing alone will do.  Mix 2 tablespoons of vinegar with a pint of water, let fruits and veggies soak and then rinse off.

2.  Restrooms (door knobs, light switch, stall door, soap dispenser, faucet) – restrooms are filled with millions and millions of germs. Whether you are at home or using a public restroom, make sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. There are numerous natural and biodegradable soaps that will effectively kill germs.  (more…)

jeremy mayer’s upcycled typewriter sculptures

typewriterscupture2_1.jpg

The computer has eaten the typewriter’s lunch.  Typewriters are now collectors items…or worse, useless artifacts of a time gone by, relegated to the slag heap, the junk pile, or some dusty attic.  But one artist has the made the creative decision to give an assortment of old typewriters a new life.  Artist Jeremy Mayer is obsessed – obsessed with disassembling typewriters and then reassembling them into full-scale, anatomically correct human figures, body parts and other creatures.

typewriterscupture210.jpg

The accompanying photos bear witness to his talent, metal working skills and attention to detail.  No soldering, welding, or glues are used in creating his sculptures – the process is entirely cold assembly.  No parts are used in his creations that didn’t come from a typewriter – and yes,  perhaps a few highly-functional typewriters were sacrificed in these artistic endeavors.

But it’s obvious that these mechanical relics have answered a higher calling that will now allow them to live on as a testament to progress, cannibalistic technological advancement and simpler times.

Eco Fashion Shows – Mark Your Calendar

If you want to be the first to see the eco-fashionable trends for next season, be sure to make it to one of these shows that showcases green fashion.  Some events present local fashion and jewelry designers, while others present well-known designers (some with a green fashion line).  Since many of the shows happen biannually and others just once a year, be sure to mark your calendars for upcoming shows.  I’m certain there are more, so feel free to add other upcoming ecofashion show dates to this list.
